Hello everyone! Thank you for visiting my website!
You may think playing taiko is only for fun, but there are benefits beyond from just that. Taiko requires one to be physically strong, energetic and have discipline. Believe it or not, Taiko helped me gain the confidence I have never had! Here is my basic bio.
Naoko Grace Nakamura immigrated to Canada from Japan in 1993. Naoko learned the piano, flute, clarinet and oboe at a young age. She has a classical music background and has a B.Mus from the University of Toronto specializing in oboe and English horn. While at U of T, Naoko took a taiko class from Kiyoshi Nagata of Toronto's Nakata Shachu. Upon moving to Kelowna she joined Yamabiko Taiko to make friends, but ultimately found what would become her passion. Naoko loves the discipline of taiko. She has taken workshops from various known taiko players, and still continues to take workshops when opportunities are given. Also she has the instructor certification of "the pound".
Naoko has been a member of Yamabiko Taiko since 2009.
Naoko currently works at a local grocery store as a baker. She also loves gardening, cooking, baking and crafting. She spends her free time with her dog Malo.
